Happy Old Man Of The Mountain Day

On this day 13 years ago, NH changed forever. The rock face, formally known as the "Old Man" that is still plastered on NH's every license plate and coin tumbled down and was lost forever. Luckily, I got to see the Old Man's face before he collapsed, and man was he beautiful.

The Old Man was first observed, in modern times, in 1805. Referring to the sighting, Daniel Webster wrote, "Men hang out their signs indicative of their respective trades; shoemakers hang out a gigantic shoe; jewelers a monster watch, and the dentist hangs out a gold tooth; but in the mountains of New Hampshire, God Almighty has hung out a sign to show that there He makes men." - WMUR

No other state has a cooler symbol than the old man, or a better motto than "Live Free Or Die." RIP Old Man, you were awesome, and thanks to people like me who have a tattoo of you, you will never be forgotten.
