A visual notebook for figuring out complex ideas

Made for visual thinkers who know that insights emerge when you lay things out and see the big picture.

Feeling lost?

Learning a new topic or figuring out a big project is a lot easier if you can lay out your thoughts visually and see how things fit together.

If you love to arrange index cards and work on paper, but want the benefits of digital media and online collaboration, then Loose Thought might be what you're looking for.

Here's how it works..

How does it compare?

Loose Thought combines the features of a visual canvas tool with structured note-taking to help you make sense of complex ideas. Here's how it compares to other kinds of tools which do similar things.

Digital Whiteboards (Miro, Freeform..)

These tools are good for communicating visual ideas, but they focus on presentation instead of note-taking, which can be distracting.

Loose Thought:

Instead of a digital whiteboard, think of a digital notebook.

Knowledgebase + Canvas (Obsidian, Heptabase..)

These tools support visual thinking, but their primary purpose is building a knowledge database which often makes the tool very complicated.

Loose Thought:

Think of a creative sketchbook rather than a complex knowledgebase.

Hey, founder here 👋

When I start a project, it's always exciting to start researching ideas and layout everything out on big sheet of paper. The trouble is, it gets out of date fast. It's also pretty awkward to use images and other digital media, a big deal these days..

So I figured "computers to the rescue", where changing things is easy, and images are plentiful! Alas, I couldn't find a tool that replicated that feeling of paper.

Most visual canvas apps I tried were geared towards presentation, not thinking. And knowledgebase apps are way too complicated. There's always the temptation to procrastinate by "optimizing your workflow" instead of spending time on the work you care about.

Hence Loose Thought. My goal is to combine the feeling of paper with the benefits of digital media, all while staying out of your way and being as easy to use as possible. That way, you can put all your creative energy into your projects, and not your tools.

Hopefully I've succeeded and you find it as useful as I do. Feel free to drop me a line with any thoughts or suggestions!
